Frequently Asked Questions

What training do your staff receive?
All staff complete a comprehensive 10-day pre-season training covering adaptive recreation techniques, behavioral support strategies, crisis intervention, first aid/CPR, and inclusive communication. Specialists receive additional training in their areas. Many of our counselors hold degrees or certifications in special education, therapeutic recreation, or related fields.
How do you accommodate medical and dietary needs?
Our on-site health center is staffed by a registered nurse 24/7. We work with families before camp to create individualized health plans. Our kitchen accommodates all dietary requirements including allergies, kosher, halal, vegetarian/vegan, and texture-modified meals. Medications are securely stored and administered by nursing staff.
What is the camper-to-staff ratio?
Our base ratio is 4:1 (campers to staff), significantly lower than industry standards. For campers who need additional support, we offer 1:1 and 2:1 buddy pairings at no extra cost. Staffing levels are determined during the pre-camp intake process in consultation with families.
How can I stay in touch with my child during camp?
We're a phone-free camp to help campers be fully present, but families receive daily photo updates via our secure parent portal. You can send letters and care packages anytime. For urgent matters, our office staff is available by phone during business hours, and our on-duty director can be reached 24/7 for emergencies.
What if my child has never been to camp before?
Many of our campers are first-timers! We assign every new camper a "camp buddy" — a returning camper who shows them the ropes. Our staff is trained to help with homesickness and adjustment. We also offer an optional pre-camp visit day in May where families can tour campus and meet staff.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Full refund if cancelled 60+ days before session start. 50% refund for cancellations 30–59 days prior. Cancellations within 30 days receive a credit toward a future session. Medical cancellations with documentation receive a full refund at any time. We never want finances to be a barrier — contact us to discuss your situation.
Do you offer financial aid?
Yes. Camp Evergreen Horizons is committed to accessibility in every sense. Our need-based financial aid program ensures no family is turned away. Aid covers up to 90% of tuition. Applications are confidential and reviewed on a rolling basis. Contact our office to request an application.
